Our Story

More Than a Coffee Shop

"Diwan" — the Arabic word for a gathering place where poets, philosophers, and neighbors come together. Co-owner Liyan Salameh named the café after that tradition, so the same spirit of connection lives on in every cup we pour.

"In this busy life, we don't see each other — so we built something that brings us together every day." — Diana Albasha, Co-Owner

That something is Diwan. Diana, her daughter Liyan, and her father Ibrahim built it together — and that family warmth shows in every detail. The menu honors Yemeni coffee heritage: beans tracing their roots back to the ancient port of Mokha, rose petals sourced directly from Saudi Arabia, and house-made syrups prepared fresh each morning. From the Date Matcha Latte to the Rose Pistachio and the Cinnamon Spice, every cup carries a piece of their tradition. So does the fresh knafeh, pulled from the oven and dusted with pistachio before your eyes.

Late Friday and Saturday hours until 10 PM carry on the ancient Middle Eastern tradition of evening gathering — and on the Eastside, where most cafés close by afternoon, Diwan fills a space the community had been waiting for.
